I listen to The Bobby Bones Show every morning on my way to work. It’s a syndicated show on country radio that always has me laughing and/or crying. They do this thing they call #PIMPINJOY and if there’s anything in the world that gets ya in the feels, it’s doing something good for others. He encourages humans to be kind to one another! You can’t get better than that! I’m a loyal listener, for sure.
You’ve probably heard the emerging hit, “Buy Me a Boat,” by Chris Janson, which recently topped the iTunes Country Songs chart. Chris was Bobby’s guest today and after playing the song that just landed him a major record deal, he did an acoustic version of his song “Hang On,” per Bobby’s request. Unable to hear the back story on this song, I wasn’t sure what it was about, but being a self-proclaimed music geek, I instantly listen for the stoutness of a lyric to draw me in.
Did it ever draw me in!
Verse one talks about being in the trenches and desperate “like you’re down and out,” while verse two assures you “somebody’s got your back up there. Hang on.” Verse three talks you off the ledge and gets real with a simple, yet powerful “you gotta hit your knees, be still, get back on track. Hang on.” Verse four is the inspiration though. Verse four looks you in the eye, grabs you by the ears and shouts a sublime message right into your soul! “When you’re doing better, better than alright. When that reason you were born takes flight. I’ll tell ya man, it’s gonna be one hell of a ride! So hang on.”
I mean, come on! Have you ever really heard anything more true? This song hit me right in the chest this morning. How AWESOME is it to know that when we are at rock bottom, all we have to do is hit our knees and pray? That’s it! God is going to be RIGHT THERE, every single time. He carries us! Furthermore, with His grace, when we are finally able to climb up out of that trench and off of that ledge, He lights our path! All we have to do is be still and know! The most wonderful part of the entire journey is what happens when we are finally doing better! As Chris says, “It’s going to be one hell of a ride! HANG ON!” When we are living right and obeying, good things happen! So much so that you’ll sit back and wonder how it could possibly be!
I thought someone might need this today. ❤
